Sabinal Alumni Scholarship Spotlights
This document highlights the achievements of the nonprofit, Sabinal Alumni, since its inception in 2020. The organization has funded 111 scholarships for Sabinal High School graduates. These include both first-year scholarships and renewable ones for students continuing through their second to fourth years of education in college, university and trade schools. It also mentions that many students hope to contribute to a better world and, in turn, support future students aspiring to pursue post-secondary education.
First-Generation College Students
My goal is to attain a career where I can use my skills to be able to help other people. I hope that I can graduate from SWTJC with an AA with a concentration in Vocational Nursing. I am also a first- generation college student, and I really want to make my parents proud by doing my best and being able to graduate. This scholarship will certainly help me reach that goal in the future. It will assist me with covering the cost of my classes in the upcoming fall semester, allowing me to spend more time studying and continuing my academic success.
Brenda M Aguilar, CLASS OF 2021

I hope to make Sabinal proud as I begin my journey to become a pediatrician. Thank you for your consideration. This second scholarship would be very helpful in funding my sophomore year at Baylor University. Due to my rigorous class schedule and two volunteer positions, I am unable to work for supplemental income. The financial assistance of the Sabinal Alumni is integral to my continued success. Thank you for your consideration.”

Renewable Scholarship Recipients
“Having the opportunity to renew my Sabinal Alumni Scholarship for the Class of 2021 would be extremely helpful in my pursuit of post-secondary education. With the renewable, I would once again be able to pay a partial amount of my tuition for the Fall2022 and Spring 2023 semesters. That is how the first scholarship was spent, and I was able to study stress- free because of it. This also helped lift some of the financial burden my tuition had on my mom, and she was able to help me in other ways without struggle.”
Penny Davis, CLASS OF 2021
“With great honor to be the recipient of the Sabinal Alumni award for a second year has been a prayer answered. My mom and I had a conversation this summer about financial status in scholarship assistance. I would be applying for or possibly renewing for the upcoming year. Receiving a phone call and email was one of the greatest news that the financial support to continue my studies at UTSA was an opportunity of blessing from my Sabinal Alumni community. Receiving this scholarship motivates me to maintain my GPA (3.54) and complete my degree. I hope in turn one day I’ll be able to give back and help other students achieve their goals.”
Diego A Cardenas, CLASS OF 2021
“The Sabinal Alumni Scholarship which I have had the honor of receiving for the past two years has helped me tremendously with the funding of courses I have taken at UTSA and with the help of buying study materials. Knowing I have my hometown help supporting me through my college makes and pushes me to continue my major in nursing, so that one day I can return to Sabinal and show my town how their support towards scholarship helped me move forward in my education.”
lliana A. Musquez, CLASS OF 2022

Genesis M Pilkington, CLASS OF 2023
“As of last semester my business administration core classes required very heavy reading material that cost over $500. This semester I plan to take four business core classes, increasing the cost of my books. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to receive this scholarship.”
Sierra M Sandoval, CLASS OF 2023
“This scholarship has been a saving grace these past two years at Texas Lutheran University. The first year it helped me pay for expensive textbooks that I needed for core classes. The second year helped more than just me; my little sister was a freshman this year and with two kids in college it put stress on my parents. The money helped alleviate some of that stress and we both attended school that year. Having this scholarship for a third year would help my family tremendously with the expenses of this upcoming year. As I go through more years here my cost of attendance increases every year. It was an unexpected expense, but this scholarship would help pay for the cost of attendance. I am forever grateful to have been a recipient of this scholarship and am even more proud to be from the town of Sabinal, because without the support from our town, this would not be possible.”
Katelyn N Sandoval, CLASS OF 2022

Delaney K Fulcher, CLASS OF 2023
